The V Club by Kate Brian
When Mrs. Victoria Treemont dies, she leaves a $160,000 college scholarship to the local high school. The catch to the scholarship is that the candidate must exemplify purity of soul, spirit, and body- which leaves everyone with one conclusion- the recipient must still be virgin. Four friends Kai, Mandy, Eva, and Debbie, have each decided to go for the scholarship- each girl has her own reasons and her own secrets and insecurities that end up not only threatening their chances for the scholarships, but also threatening to ruin their friendships.
I found myself drawn into this story- and I'm not really sure why. I liked the fact that it was not preachy and does not moralize. It's a very light, quick read. I especially liked the end of the story, which is set in the future and focuses less on who ended up winning the scholarship, and more on the dynamic between the friends and what has happened to them since graduation. It was a nice closure to the story.
