A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
After her mother's death, sixteen year old Gemma moves from her home in India back to her family's native England where she sent away to boarding school. While at school, Gemma discovers that she has been followed by a man she saw briefly in India and begins to experience strange hallucinations. Gemma finds a supernatural world and learns what an important role she will play in its future. A Great and Terrible Beauty has a very in-depth plot with many layers and lots of competing elements (fantasy, gothic, supernatural, and historical elements). The story is drawn out and a little long at times, but the characters are interesting and the story will make readers look for the sequel- Rebel Angels.
