Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston
For years faeries crossed back and forth between the mortal realm and the Otherworld occasionally stealing a human child. After a distraught mother crosses into the realm of the fey and steals a fairy princess, Auberon the king of the Unseelie Court closes the portals between the realms. Auberon’s seal holds except for the Samhain Gate in New York City’s central park which opens every October 31st for one night, and every nine years the gate opens for nine days and nine nights. Unfortunately for Sonny, one of the changeling Janus Guards chosen to defend the gate this year is one of those nine night years. The last thing he needs is a distraction, but that is exactly what he gets when he meets Kelley, an actress starring in a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream not really knowing just how closely the play mirrors the world.
Livingston’s tale is certain to appeal to fans of other dark urban fantasies, especially Melissa Marr. The world Livingston created jumps off the page, the descriptions are vivid and wonderful and allows the readers to view everything for themselves. The rotating perspectives between Sonny and Kelley really allow the reader’s to get to know each character and see the blossoming romance unfold from each side.
