The school year is not starting well for Jess. After an amazing summer, Jess and Fred get into a horrible fight the night before school starts- so horrible that they are not speaking and Jess isn't sure if they are broken up or not. To make matters worse, a harsh new substitute has taken an immediate disliking to Jess and has her placed on restriction. Jess handles everything the only way that Jess knows how- with her sharp sense of humor. Laugh Out Loud FUNNY!; main character that is easy for teenage girls to relate to, Jess has a sharp wit, good sense of humor, tendancies twoards daydreaming. Very quick read with some very suspenseful moments. Ends rather abruptly leaving the reader with unanswered questions and wanting more. British slang might not be understood right away, those most can be interpreted through the text
