Confessions of a Serial Kisser by Wendelin Van Draanen
After Evangeline discovers her mom’s secret library of romance novels, she sets out to get her own “Crimson Kiss”- a spectacular, heart-stopping kiss. Unfortunately, her high school is lacking in possibilities as the good kissing prospects turn out to be duds. Evangeline soon finds herself with a bad reputation and when she unknowingly kisses her best friends crush, her quest for the prefect kiss completely explodes.
Van Draanen has crafted another light-hearted, fun, and laugh out loud novel for teen girls. Despite the light-hearted chick lit fare, the novel also tackles issues with substance- particularly the parallels between Evangeline’s unwillingness to forgive her wayward father and her best friend’s inability to forgive her. Also, I think that the way the novel ends presents a powerful message for young teen girls- happily ever after doesn’t always mean finding your Prince Charming in high school.
