Dumb Love by Kathleen Jeffrie Johnson
Pleasantly plump Carlotta is an aspiring writer living in a small mountain town with her mother's live in boyfriend, who is a recovering alcoholic, while her mother is off selling her hand crocheted Easter bunnies. Carlotta is madly in love with Pete, who in a cruel twist of fate falls for Andrea- Carlotta's writing competition. Carlotta sets out on a mission to win back her man, but ends up finding someone else instead. A very difficult story to follow- plot lines start and stop suddenly with minimal transition that make it difficult for reader's to follow Carlotta's story. While her life would make great insparation for her writings, Carlotta instead focuses on this fantasy romance world she has created in her mind that she tries to carry over into her own life. Her relationship with her nemesis Andrea is an unusual relationship- more friends than enemies. The characters never develop fully enough to connect with. The story has its light-hearted and humorous moments that keep the story entertaining.
