Measle and the Dragodon by Ian Ogilvy
This sequel to 2004's Measle and the Wrathmonk picks up two weeks after Measle is reunited with his parents. The Stubbs family is still making up for lost time, celebrating eight years of missed birthdays and Christmas celebrations. The death of Basil Tramplebone, however, has greatly upset his Wrathmonk friends, who have sworn revenge against the Stubb family. With the help of a Dragodon, an ancient and evil creature, the Wrathmonks kidnap Measle's mother and cause his father to suffer amnesia. Measle with the help of magical gadgets and his trusty dog Tink, set off to rescue his mother and prevent her from the terrible fate the Dragodon has in store for her.
The book has a bright, attractive, and interesting cover that is sure to catch potential reader's eyes. The story itself, however, has a few flaws- characters are flat and uninteresting, the threat of danger is obviously an empty threat, and the ending is rather predictible. The story may appeal to upper elementary/lower middle school students- especially those who are fans of the Series of Unfortunate Events books.
